New Contribution in Peace Report /

A contribution to this years's Peace Report examines current debates concerning Europe's "strategic autonomy".

During the turbulences of recent years, debates on the peace and security policy of the EU have intensified. Discussions on the frequently demanded European strategic autonomy should primarily be oriented towards three aspects: non-military challenges for internal and external security, civil instruments for dealing with these challenges as well as, not least, a clear compass for security policy.

The leading German peace research institutes (IFSH, PRIF, BICC, INEF) publish the annual Peace Report containing analyses and recommendations concerning current topics of peace and security policy. In this year, Hendrik Hegemann contributed as co-author to a section on the European Union and contemporary discussions about the goal of Europe's "strategic autonomy". This contribution (in German) includes, amongst other things, the demand for a "more inclusive conception of security that enables diversity within European societies".
